Highly Recommended Astrology Books

Post by marslion »

Ephemerides:

This has to be the large format Raphael's Ephemeris, published by W. Foulsham: good looking and packed with new data like asteroids and the Dark Moon Lilith. This latter isn't in the American version, nor are the asteroids given every ten days, unlike Raphael's. And of course, Chiron is listed there. Modern astrologers can't afford to overlook it! Marks: 9/10

General astrology:

For an intelligent, well presented introduction to astrology you need Horoscope Symbols by Robert Hand, published by Para Research. Hand even manages to underline some of our lazy thinking about astrology - like planetary rulerships that don't work properly (e.g. Venus-Taurus) and puts everything in proper context. A brilliant book. Marks:9/10

Psychological astrology:

The classic in this field is Relating by Liz Greene, a marvellous survey of how Jungian psychology relates to the symbol system used in astrology, and particularly, how we can learn about the effect we have on others. Well written, lucid, profound. Marks: 10/10

Predictive:

The absolute 'Bible' for looking at the dynamics on a birth chart is Robert Hand's Planets in Transit . Though perhaps a little long-winded when discussing certain transits (those by sextile, for instance) it is still an indispensable text for astrologers. Marks 8/10
