Hi all,
I'm fairly new to astrology and definitely new to this forum.
I have a question regarding the moon in constellations.
When I use lunar calendars online, they differ from apps.
Eg. now, 14/01/2025 06:09 UTC I see the moon between Gemini and Cancer, when looking at Sky Map, Sky View or https://stellarium-web.org/.
However, when I look at calendar websites like https://mooncalendar.astro-seek.com/ or https://www.moontracks.com/lunar_ingress.html it says the moon is a few hours from the edge of Leo.
Am I interpreting this incorrectly? Are the calendar websites wrong? Or the apps?
Is there an experienced astrologer who wants to give me a small explanation or send me in the direction where I can find more information on this please?
Thank you for your time and have a great day!
Kind regards,
Mark
Discrepancy between lunar calendars and Sky map apps

Re: Discrepancy between lunar calendars and Sky map apps
Hi LunarNoob,
Such as Stellarium (and the others you mentioned) are astronomy sites, which give the actual (called 'sidereal') positions of the planets.
These vary from the "Western" astrology positions as this system bases such as planetary positions on the "Tropical" Zodiac.
Wiki gives a thorough explanation of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_ ... f%20Pisces.
So, for astrology matters (unless your consulting a Vedic astrologer, as they use the sidereal positions), stick to Astrology references for chart matters.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Admin.
