fixed stars & the southern hemesphere

Dating back to antiquity, there are approx. just a few 100's of the thousands of fixed stars used in astrology currently, and used according to their brightness and latitude.

fixed stars & the southern hemesphere

Post by abigail »

while it is true that aries is the beginning of energy in the northern hemesphere, & the beginning of short days in the southern, the fixed stars in aries, specificallyn difda, indicate beginnings of energy for all the world.

Thanks for that abigail ! And, inevitably, it sent me on a merry dance to see what I could find ! (Basically of course, the older interpretations of Fixed Stars tended to be really good, or ...very negative.)

What intrigues me most, and I hope you will post more on this - obviously because am in S. Hemisphere - is how you arrived at/decided that this Star marks the beginning of the 'astro tropical year' here. And, if you have any suggestions on how to proceed using this particular Star, would very much appreciate it ! ( ).

'Difda' - also known as 'Diphda' or ' Deneb Kaitos' was apparently (according to "Ebertin-Hoffmann, FIXED STARS and their interpretation") in 1deg. 51 minutes of Aries in 1950 - that's 'astrologically' speaking. And in there it was described as 'situated in the "Tail of the Whale". Its property is:
"That of Saturn. Associated with it are inhibitions and restraint in every way, psychologically and physically."
(Its 'Yearly Motion' is apparently 19.8 seconds of arc, so it has only moved about 2 minutes of arc to where it is now- and please do check!)

This is an extract from Wikipedia:
"Other designations
Deneb Kaitos, Diphda, Difda al Thani, Rana Secunda, 16 Cet, Gl 31, HR 188, BD -18°115, HD 4128, GCTP 134.00, SAO 147420, HIP 3419.

Beta Ceti (β Cet / β Ceti) is the brightest star in the constellation Cetus. Although it has the Bayer designation "beta", it is actually brighter than Alpha Ceti. It has the traditional names Deneb Kaitos or Diphda.

Deneb Kaitos is easy to locate due to its location in an otherwise dark corner of the sky.

Deneb Kaitos has a stellar classification on the border between G and K, making it a yellowish-orange star somewhat cooler than the Sun. In spite of its cooler nature, Deneb Kaitos is several times brighter than the Sun, as it is more massive and has several times the Sun's radius. Deneb Kaitos appears to be an older star leaving the main sequence on its way through the red giant phase of its evolution. With an apparent magnitude of 2.04 it ranks among the brighter stars in our night sky, and an absolute magnitude of −0.31. At only 96 light years from the Earth, Deneb Kaitos is one of the nearer stars of a bright apparent magnitude. It can be located at declination −17° 59' 11.81" and right ascension of 00:43:35.23 (2000).

The traditional name Deneb Kaitos is Arabic for "tail of Cetus", also known as Diphda "frog", from the Arabic الضفدع الثاني aḍ-ḍafdaʿ aṯ-ṯānī "the second frog" ("the first frog" is Fomalhaut)."

"Note: This star, Deneb Kaitos, β Cetus, is listed as Difda in Robson's book Fixed Stars and Constellations in Astrology.

According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Saturn; and, to Alvidas, of Mars, Saturn and Mercury. It causes self-destruction by brute force, sickness, disgrace, misfortune and compulsory change. [Robson*, p.162.]

Inhibitions and restraints in every way, psychologically and physically. [Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation, Elsbeth Ebertin, 1928, p.12.]

With Sun: Mental disturbance, some loss keenly felt, accidents such as burns, scalds and cuts. [Robson*].

With Moon: Pioneer, reckless, headstrong, violent temper, many quarrels. [Robson*, p.162.]

With Mercury: Active mind, writer or speaker upon subjects of public welfare, seeks to enact laws of benefit to the community, favorable for social affairs. [Robson*, p.162.]

With Venus: Reserved, passionate, many secret love affairs. [Robson*, p.162.]

With Mars: Passionate, violent, subject to accidents and injuries to the head, fevers, disgrace and ruin through own acts. [Robson*, p.162.]

With Jupiter: High legal or ecclesiastical position, but danger of reversal, treachery from secret enemies, loss through speculation. [Robson*, p.163.]

With Saturn: Impure mind, worry, secret wrongdoing, inharmonious environment. [Robson*, p.163.]

With Uranus: Quick mind, but slow expression, many losses especially in Mercurial matters, restless, much travel, rarely remains long in one place, much energy, but accomplishes little, mind temporarily unbalanced, bad for love affairs and marriage, ailments affecting the kidneys or veins in the small of the back, peculiar death, probably alone in a forest or desert. [Robson*, p.163.]

With Neptune: Disagreeable, fixed opinions, mechanical and inventive ability, peculiar religious ideas, very zealous, domestic disagreements, sorrow caused through some secret, trouble through children, disagreement with or separation from parent, harm through anonymous letters, loss through mercurial affairs and fire, death often by fire. [Robson*, p.163.]"

well, I stand corrected, I guess I was thinking of its place at 1 degree @ aries, but that's no explaination for the main trouble @ the southern hemesphere: I looked up all the aries stars in robson, & moon in alpheratz gives energy, could that be it?

the moon is there pnce a month, but only conjoined the sun there the beginning of aries. I checked the first days of libra, & found mars conjoined vindimatrix produces erergy, there every 2 and a half yearsd, bur for a longer time than the moon and difda. interesting project to see what & when other stars are energy producing, & whether ehrt southern hemesphere has unusual springs when mars is there.

the sun was conjoined in vindimatrix sunday oct 1st to oct 8th 1969........also oct 4th to oct 6th 1057 (3 degree orb) it came close in 1927, so, it seems a probable/almost 30 year cycle.

What is the exact acceptation of "fixed" in anchored stars, back in the universe, aggregate is in a accompaniment of connected move? Actually, it is a amiss diction which is acquired by the actuality that by the acceptable ambit acclimated in astrology, the movements of planets, asteroids, the Sun and the Moon, as able-bodied as the analysis into abstruse houses, the stars, which are not allotment of the solar system, assume about motionless.
