Declinations and Parallel Planets

I have stumbled upon another question and it has to do with identifying the declination of planets in a chart and figuring out which ones are in paralle. I have been digging around on some other sites and reading some older astrology texts and I have found that some astrologers used planets in parallel to help determine the impacts on the native.

Was using parallel planets in a chart something that was in favor sometime ago?

If you use them how and why do you?

If there are several parallels in a chart does it add weight in the interpretation of the chart?

Some of the the information I have found indicated that this method was being used during the 17th and 18th centuries, so I'm assuming that it was inuse quite some time before. that.

Any information about this would be helpful.
