Rulerships of Scorpio

Planetary rulerships of houses and points such as the Moon's Nodes, in spite of some issues with Mercury and Venus being rulers of two signs, offer a degree of subtlety and insight in interpretation that ought not to be overlooked.

Rulerships of Scorpio

Post by admin »

PLUTO/PELE/SCORPIO

We of course know that Pluto (along with Mars) rules the sign of Scorpio. Pluto (the Roman equivalent of the Greek ‘Hades’) rules the ‘underworld’, and the deepest unconscious parts of the psyche, which do have a tendency to ‘erupt volcanically" and, change everything in our lives, in one way or another.

Volcanoes too, of course, spew hot rock in the form of liquid fire. (Scorpio too is– a water sign, fixed, but ‘fluid’, and also – a ‘female’ sign - as all Earth and Water signs are).

Both planets associated with Scorpio are ‘male’ (as is Saturn/Chronos with Capricorn – which is another matter). So, looking at Pele:

http://www.goddessgift.com/goddess-myth ... s-pele.htm "
Goddess Pele :: Hawaiian Goddess of the Volcano
The goddess Pele was supposed to grow up to become a water goddess, but when she discovered matches her fascination with fire took her in another direction entirely!
The headstrong young goddess ignored her mother’s instructions and managed to set her home (the island of Tahiti) aflame while playing with fires from the Underworld… …
Pele set about trying to make a new home for her family, but it was proving difficult because the jealous snow goddesses kept sending blizzards their way. Hopping from one tiny island to another to escape the hard freezes, Pele kept moving southward only to encounter tidal waves sent by her vengeful sister, Namaka.

Finally Pele laid claim to Mauna Loa on the southernmost island. Mauna Loa is the tallest mountain on earth (as measured from the ocean floor), and even the powerful Namaka couldn’t fling her ocean waves that high!"
And from another mythological source: (‘Hawaiian Legends of Volcanoes” by Wiiliam D. Westervelt, Pub: Charles E. Tuttle Company Rutland, Vermont & Tokyo, Japan), “When Pele came to the island of Hawaii, seeking a permanent home, she found another god of fire already in posession of the territory: ai-laauThe forest eater.

Apparently, ai-laau was a fire-god, who had an ‘insatiable appetite’ …his fires were a part of the forces of creation. He built up the islands for future life…Pele came to the island of Hawaii…”and there grew within her an intense desire to go at once and see ai-laau.” But, when she arrived ai-laau had left because he knew that Pele, through her endless toil, (she kept digging and digging) was too strong for him. From then on, Pele “dug day and night and…fastened herself tight to Hawaii for all time”.

This mythology goes much further, but the essence is that Pele (like Pluto) rules the volcanic depths of Scorpio.

As with Capricorn (a ‘female’ sign, but ruled by a ‘male’ planet: Saturn, and which many astrologers are looking at a counterpart: Rhea), Might not Scorpio too find the male Pluto’s counterpart in Pele ?

Just a thought, and would welcome any comments.

Thankyou.

(I would add that this is not a 'feminist' post, but just that this sign is 'female', as are, and as mentioned, all Earth and Water signs are. Am just seeking other possibilities for basic matters.).

Oh Phillip,

Most of we astrologers bemoan the demotion of Pluto from 'planet' status. Nonetheless, 'he' is the 'ruler' of Scorpio, with which I think most will agree.

If you would like to consider the possibility of other rulers or 'co-rulers' of the signs, I suggest you scroll down to 'Mersenne's area here, or just click on this link (which is same but takes you to same topic:

Enjoy !
