Equal house -Oldest most reliable

Which ones work best for you and, why? Equal House; Prophyry; Natural Graduation; M-House; Campanus; Regiomontanus; Morinus; Axial Rotation; Zenith (Horizontal); East Point; Alcabitus; Placidus; Birth Place; Topocentric; ...these are quoted styles from Ralph William Holden's book: "The Elements of House Division"1977, Camelot Press. Would appreciate any or all responses to these house systems.

Thanks for this SaggiMC,
This certainly gets rid of many complicated issues such as intercepted signs, and is surely a really good and solid system, not least of all for those born in extreme latitudes.

The main issue here is, I feel, that amongst the many House Systems, it is important to use one as a primary, and any others as a ‘back-up’ ...ie. it’s best to use only one as the main use, once it has been decided on. (I’m saying this after trying out over many years, all of the many many many different systems available, until I arrived at the one that ‘worked’ for me. I do use ‘Equal Houses’ at times, and certainly do also use ‘Equal Solar Houses’ – when birthtime is not available, as I feel that this is relevant – ‘Sun Sign Astrology’ notwithstanding, which cannot supply the exact Moon position, of course).

Each ‘system’ has a way of connecting with each person who is studying and learning this art. And when that system ‘clicks’/feels right/works, that’s the one for that person to use, consistently, otherwise, too much confusion will inevitably ensue.

Please do continue with your thoughts on this.

Good day to you all. I am currently trying to decide upon a system, and I am, indeed, leaning toward Equal. However, I must admit that this is mainly because my idol, Russell Crowe, fits well with me using it, lol. I am new here, and am looking forward to reading more posts about this topic. Stay well, DonnaBahama...(-:

Hi DonnaBahama and welcome.

The Equal House System is a well-researched and ancient system, still in use by many. I would ask, do you use such from the point of the Sun’s degree as ‘rising’/1st House ? (It is always important to have the time and place of birth for any chart system, otherwise the Moon’s placement may not be accurate).

Good Luck with your quest.

Best,

Admin.

p.s. Re Russell Crowe: why would one not want to use a system in which such as he would not ‘fit’ !?! :)

I do not use this. To tell the truth, after a year of getting my time accurate, I now just rely upon Astro.com which shows my Ascendant at about 2 degrees Leo, Equal House. Could the 'system' you describe be used with a variety of Houses? I guess it can. Can you tell me a bit more about using the Sun as the Rising Point? Is/was it used by a particular culture? Ta... 8)

Donna, I'll jump in here, the Ascendant is the constellation the eastern horizon points to at the exact moment of birth. That has been used by astrologers for... I imagine for ever maybe. Solar or Sun house systems place the Sun on the Ascendant and I don't know of any astrologers who use this house system unless it's when you don't have a birth time. Most astrologers in this case use a midday chart, the Sun is at 12:00 midday, sitting at the top of the chart and the chart is read like that. When I do a reading without a birth time I don't use houses, without the Ascendant and Midheaven I have to rely on planets , signs and aspects.
